The AAA Driver Improvement Program is a nationally recognized defensive driving course held in a classroom setting that consists of eight parts. This course provides techniques to compensate for changes associated with aging as part of a thorough review of the rules of the road, with an emphasis on safety instructions and defensive driving practices. This driver safety course will allow seniors to stay active and independent.

Upon completion of the course, students receive a Certificate of Completion entitling them to a discount on automobile insurance in RI and CT.

To remain eligible for this discount, students must repeat the course every two to three years, depending on the policy of the automobile insurance provider.

Connecticut Classes

Classes are offered throughout the year at the AAA office in Hamden and through several police departments and off site locations.

Upon completion, Connecticut drivers ages 60 and older are eligible to receive a discount through their auto insurance companies with the certificate of completion.

Classes are free of charge for AAA members. For more information, please call 203-937-2595, ext. 8363.

Please note: this class will NOT meet in-state or out-of-state Court requirements for moving violations or speeding tickets. You will only receive the certificate if you are applying for your insurance carrier’s mature driving discount.
