MA Driving School FAQs

For more than 80 years, AAA has provided quality, on-the-road instruction for drivers. AAA is the trusted source for everything automotive and safety related. Our instructors are state licensed and highly trained professionals. We live our mission statement every day: “Creating Lifelong Safe Drivers.”  We use late model meticulously maintained cars and even have electric vehicles in certain locations. Simply put, we have the best Driver’s Education Curriculum in the state.

What is included in a driver training program?

  • 30 hours of Classroom instruction (must be at least 15 years, 9 months of age)
  • 12 hours Behind-the-Wheel Instruction
  • 6 hours of In-Car Observation time
  • 2-hour Parent/Guardian Class, attended by at least one parent (certificate valid for 5 years)

You may obtain a learner's permit once you have reached age 16. Start your application online, then bring the required identification and completed application to an RMV service center.
You must hold your permit for six months without any infractions, meet all the requirements for driver education, have a Driver Education Certificate processed by the RMV, and pass a road test.
Teens may take in-car lessons once the student has obtained a learner’s permit and has taken all the required classroom training, and all lessons have been paid in full. In addition, the parent or guardian must also complete the 2-hour Parent Class. AAA Driver Training has a convenient schedule of appointments during the day, after school, evening and on the weekends. Adults may begin in-car lessons immediately if they hold a permit or license.
Registration for classroom courses can be done online at AAA.com/DriverTraining. Students may also call AAA Driver Training at (855) 222-1050 to register.
Teens may schedule their road tests directly through the RMV by the student or parent once all training requirements have been met and the driver education certificate has been issued. If you would like AAA sponsorship, which includes the use of one of our cars, we would need at least 2-3 weeks notice. Contact the call center to schedule at (855) 222-1050. If you’re over 18, you do not need to complete a driver’s education program, however behind the wheel lessons are strongly advised to properly develop the necessary skills and safe driving habits. Students must complete at least one lesson with AAA before sponsorship. (Note: AAA will make the final sponsorship determination based on the student’s ability and skills.)
RMV prices are subject to change, so it’s recommended that you contact your local RMV location or check online.
