An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a valuable form of identification should you need to communicate with foreign authorities - even if you are not planning to drive.

How To Apply:

 Apply in person at a AAA Northeast Branch.
The fastest way to receive your IDP!

You will need to provide:

• Download and fill out an IDP Application, and bring it to your nearest AAA Northeast Branch, no appointment required. 
• Two original passport pictures (also available at AAA Northeast Branches). 
• A valid U.S. driver's license.
• Pay a $20 permit fee and you're ready to go!

If you are unable to visit your local AAA Northeast Branch or are currently overseas, you can apply and pay for your IDP online and have it shipped at your expense.

Important Information:

• Please allow 5 business days for processing, plus the shipping time of your choice.
• If you need the IDP sooner, please refer to the in-person instructions above.
• Online orders are processed at a fulfillment center and not at your local AAA Branch. 
• Local AAA Branches do not have access to your online order and cannot process online applications.
• IDP’s are physically printed and mailed.  Digital versions are not available. 
• Cost: $30 for the IDP and required digital photo, + shipping cost (varies based on what option you select).

You will need:

• Access the AAA IDP website, create and pay for your order.
• Complete the Online IDP Application.
• Follow links sent to your mobile device to upload your digital photo and both sides of your current US Driver’s License
• Sign the Application electronically and finish the submission and you will receive an email confirmation.
• After five business days*, when the IDP is completed, tracking information will be emailed to you.
• IDP orders are processed in the order they are received and once submitted, no changes or refunds are allowed.

 Apply by Mail

If you are unable to visit your nearest AAA Northeast Branch, your IDP can be obtained through the mail. Simply enclose the following and mail them to a AAA Northeast Branch nearest you:

• Your completed IDP Application form. 
• Two original passport photos (2"x2", white background, color).
• A photocopy of both sides of your driver's license
• $25 fee ($20 permit fee + $5 return mailing fee), made payable by check to AAA Northeast.
  - If you include a self-addressed pre-paid postal return envelope; a $5 return mailing fee is not required.
• Incomplete applications or failure to submit required items will delay issuance of the IDP. 
• Please allow up to 2-4 weeks from receipt of application to allow time for processing and shipping.
  - In lieu of the $5 return mailing fee, you may opt to include a fee for expedited return delivery. See USPS.com or Fedex.com for rates.

Note:

• The prices and benefits mentioned above are only applicable at AAA Northeast branches.
• AAA Northeast reserves the right to restrict the number of IDP/IADP’s completed at one time due to business demands.
• Up to 5 IDP/IADP’s may be processed per customer or business per day. Visiting multiple offices is treated as one day.
• A company that is in the business of submitting IDP/IADP’s for other customers must also adhere to the following:
  • Company employee must appear in person. No mailed-in applications will be processed.
  • All applications must be filled out completely.
  • A valid copy of their US Driver’s License must be included.
  • Original photo’s must be supplied; no scanned photo’s accepted.
  • If business demands warrant, IDP/IADP’s maybe processed off hours with pick up on next business day.
  • Payments: CASH ONLY No Debit/Credit Cards/Checks/Money Orders accepted.
