E-ZPass Logo

RI E-ZPass Transponders available in all RI AAA Offices, S. Attleboro & Somerset AAA Offices. Completed RI E-ZPass applications are accepted up to 4:30PM on weekdays. No applications are processed on Saturdays. Please note E-ZPass paperwork can take up to 30 minutes to complete. We thank you for your patience and understanding. No appointment is needed.

 
AAA has partnered with the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. AAA Northeast Branches in RI, and the S. Attleboro and Somerset branches sell RI E-ZPass Transponders for $10.00 for AAA members and for non-members plus initial load amount. *
 
AAA Members will receive a $2.00 credit towards their toll balance just by signing up for an E-ZPass account at one of the participating AAA Offices.

Eligible Vehicles Two axle, 4-tire individually owned/leased vehicles, 7,000 lbs. max gross weight, includes pickups and RVs with dual rear tires and motorcycles. *

*Pickup trucks eligibility for E-ZPass is based on plate type and vehicle weight (GVW).

AAA cannot process accounts for any commercial plated vehicle, regardless of weight. Applicants must go to RITBA.

  • Pickup trucks with Antique/Combination plate type up to and including 7,000 GVW can be done at AAA.

Certain vehicles require an exterior transponder which must be purchased at the RITBA location. See website for vehicle restrictions: www.ezpassritba.com. These vehicles include:

  • Buick Roadmaster - all
  • Cadillac Catera - 1997-2001
  • Chevrolet Lumina Van – Prior to 2002
  • Chevrolet Venture – Prior to 2002
  • Ford Crown Victoria* – 1988-2006
  • Ford Taurus* – 1986-1991
  • Land Rover Range Rovers from 2003-2013
  • Oldsmobile Silhouette – Prior to 2002
  • Pontiac Trans Sport – Prior to 2002
  • Pontiac Montana – Prior to 2002
  • Subaru SVX – All

  1. Pickup trucks eligibility for E-ZPass is based on plate type and vehicle weight (GVW).
  2. AAA cannot process accounts for any commercial plated vehicle, regardless of weight. Applicants must go to RITBA.
  3. Pickup trucks with Antique/Combination plate type up to and including 7,000 GVW can be done at AAA.
  4. No-commercial vehicles cannot be processed at AAA whether they are under 7,000 lbs. or not. Any vehicle with a commercial license plate type is not allowed on an individual account, commercial accounts can only be opened at the RITBA in Jamestown, RI.

The minimum age to open an E-ZPass account is 18 years of age.  Persons under 18 will have to go on a plan with a parent/guardian or wait until their 18th birthday to open an account.

The person who wants the E-ZPass account in their name needs to be present when processing the application.

  • If the account holder is having another person pay for the account setup/device, that person also needs to be present when processing the application.

RI Resident Discount Plan

RI Residents only: Get a discounted rate of $0.83 cents/trip. Proof of residency required. To demonstrate proof of residency you must submit at least one of the applicable documents listed below:

  • Utility Bill
  • Tax Bill
  • Copy of Rental or Lease Agreement
  • RI College Student ID
  • RI State Driver's License and Vehicle Registration (note: Lease vehicle registrations with out of state addresses cannot be used for proof of residency. Pick Up trucks require an active RI Vehicle Registration.)

*Payment by Credit Card/Debit Cards only. No cash or checks. New accounts only. No refunds/exchanges on E-ZPass transponders. Interior transponder only, maximum of four transponders per account. Transponders are transferrable amongst vehicles of the same type. Transponders are active 24 hours after account opening (48 hours at non-RI toll facilities). Transponders cannot be activated after 4:45PM on weekdays or anytime on Saturdays.
